Perched on the 21st floor of the Marriott AC Hotel, Castell Rooftop Lounge offers sweeping views of the Manhattan skyline in the heart of Times Square. To ensure guests could enjoy this premium rooftop destination year-round, HeatingSolutionsUSA was brought in to design and supply a custom hotel rooftop bar outdoor heating system. The system needed to provide consistent warmth at high elevations while integrating seamlessly into the lounge’s modern, upscale design.
Challenges & Site Conditions
Designing a rooftop bar heating system in New York City required solving several unique challenges. The client preferred heaters mounted at elevated heights, meaning the system had to deliver radiant warmth from more than 20 feet above grade. With seasonal temperatures ranging from cool summer nights in the 50s to winter conditions well below freezing, and strong rooftop winds to contend with, the heaters had to be powerful, wind-resistant, and visually unobtrusive to preserve the lounge’s stylish atmosphere.
Our Outdoor Heating Design & Installation Solution
HeatingSolutionsUSA collaborated with MEP engineers WSP to create a heating plan tailored for the rooftop environment. The system featured Solaira Alpha H3 infrared heaters in black, mounted in pairs on custom Solaira brackets designed for the space. Controls were managed via Solaira Omnis variable controllers with integrated timers, giving lounge staff full flexibility to adjust heater output, maintain energy efficiency, and ensure consistent comfort for guests regardless of weather conditions.
Results: Extended Rooftop Use and Increased Venue Value
The completed installation transformed the Castell Rooftop Lounge into a four-season rooftop bar, allowing guests to enjoy panoramic Times Square views in comfort well beyond the typical outdoor dining season. The discreet design preserved the venue’s upscale aesthetic while providing reliable radiant warmth, enhancing both guest experience and operational value.
